In its 20 October 2026 press release, titled “Telemarketing: more than 37,000 reports of unwanted calls in the first seven months of 2026”, Italy’s privacy regulator said it had received over 37,000 reports during that period and over 104,000 in 2025. The figures were presented at a meeting with consumer associations in Rome.

Agostino Ghiglia, a member of the regulator’s board, reported aggregate telemarketing fines exceeding €200 million since 2020 and the confiscation of databases in cases involving more systematic violations. These are administrative penalties, distinct from compensation for consumers. The individual enforcement decisions have not been examined.

Ghiglia described public enforcement and collective compensation actions as complementary tools. Vice-president Ginevra Cerrina Feroni highlighted associations’ role in helping individuals exercise their rights and reporting recurring problems, while preserving individual access to protection. The press release records calls for stronger consumer protection and introduces no new legal obligations.
