According to Federprivacy, whose article dated 29 October 2026 identifies the Italian Data Protection Authority as its source, the authority fined the Ministry of Justice EUR 20,000 and the National Council of Notaries (CNN) EUR 15,000. The case concerns candidates’ data in the competition for 400 notarial posts launched in 2024. The article cites decisions Nos. 761 and 762 of 7 October 2026; their full texts have not been consulted directly, so the amounts and reasoning remain attributed to that account.

Regarding the Ministry, Federprivacy reports that written examination results were displayed at the entrance to its headquarters, including the names of candidates who had not qualified for the oral examination. The sector-specific rules described in the article instead permitted only successful candidates to be named and restricted access to the results to the premises where the written examinations had taken place.

As for the CNN, according to Federprivacy, the findings concern its request for the list of qualifying candidates from an examination committee member and its subsequent sharing with notaries registered on its institutional platform before the Ministry officially released the results. The committee member reportedly sent, by mistake and without authorisation, a version containing unofficial annotations, which was then shared, albeit briefly. The account also states that the Data Protection Authority imposed no further corrective measures on either administration because the conduct had already ceased to have effects.
