AI systems and legal questions

AI law approached from three converging perspectives: scholarly work, through the direction of the AI Law journal; contractual and regulatory practice; and the development of applications.

Regulation in context
The analysis starts from the classification of the system and the role of those who develop, place on the market or use it, from the purposes pursued, the data used and the effects on people. AI Act obligations are coordinated with personal data protection, copyright and contractual relationships.
From technical knowledge to assessment
Working knowledge of the major AI models and systems makes it possible to check that technical documentation, contractual terms and actual behaviour match, distinguishing real capabilities from those claimed but not demonstrated.

International contracts, content and data

Licensing and use agreements
Development, licensing and supply contracts for AI systems, including in English and French: training data and materials, permitted uses, ownership of outputs, confidentiality and allocation of liability are negotiated as elements of a single agreement.
Copyright and source materials
Long practice in rights acquisition and exploitation makes it possible to establish ownership of content, the scope of licences, the operation of text and data mining exceptions and compatibility with the uses planned in the AI project.
Personal data and business information
Certified DPO expertise guides the assessment of legal bases, suppliers and international transfers: the technical availability of data and business information does not, in itself, make their use lawful.

Legal research and hands-on development

Marco Perilli is co-founder and Managing Director (direttore responsabile) of AI Law – International Review of Artificial Intelligence Law. The international, interdisciplinary scholarly debate fostered by the Review feeds the analysis of questions arising in practice.

Within PERI Labs he designs and develops AI applications for legal and documentary needs: the professional question becomes a working tool, through distinct stages of prototyping, validation and actual use.
